ToN Center is now contracted with MHN insurance health plan, a Health Net managed healthcare network. MHN health policies can be used to offer substance abuse treatment and other medical benefits and coverage to insured policy members.

Often, costs associated with a drug and alcohol addiction center are included in the benefits package of an MHN plan, allowing people to get treatment without having to pay out of pocket.

More health care providers such as AToN who are contracted with MHN’s are able to help individuals seeking treatment and will have more accessibility by including these benefits into the insurance packages.

People who have these insurance packages have the ability to receive treatment services to help them while recovering.

Services Covered

MHN offers comprehensive behavioral health services. Their plans include substance abuse treatment. Employees can get access to high-quality mental healthcare. For those struggling to get out, telehealth appointments are offered as well.

Your MHN plan covers medically necessary mental healthcare and substance abuse treatment. You’ll get sessions with therapists, psychiatrists or a psychologist, treatment in settings that meet your needs – from care in substance addiction rehab programs for a few hours a day, several days a week, to 24-hour care. Follow up and aftercare.

Affordable Care Act

Substance abuse treatment is covered by the new health care reform law (Affordable Care Act)  Insurance companies are more likely to cover addiction treatment now than before.

Benefits are included in your medical policy premium. You will be charged a co-payment for each visit. CORE, UC Care and UCSF members should use Anthem in-network providers as much as possible. UC Care and UCSF patients should know that if they go to an out-of-area hospital or doctor, they might need to pay more money upfront.

Patients should ask their doctors to give them a list of in-network hospitals and doctors before going to an out-of-network hospital or doctor. Patients who want to save money should ask their doctors to send them lists of in-network hospitals.

Routine office or telemental visits cost different amounts depending on the plan you choose and what type of doctor you see. Coinsurance varies based on how much money you spend out-of-pocket.


Behavioral Health Coverage is provided by Kaiser for those who enroll in Kaiser Permanente senior advantage.

Managed Health Network (MHN) Coverage For Drug and Alcohol Rehab (1)Behavioral Health benefits for those enrolled in high option supplements to Medicare, UC, and MediCare PPO are provided by Medicare and Anthem Blue Cross.

Members can get care from any licensed behavioral health provider, including psychiatrists, psychologists and MFTs or MFCCs.

Please call your provider to confirm availability. Mental Health Care Plan covers services provided by psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage therapists, nurses, and others. Co-pays are 20 dollars per session.

You will be reimbursed if you go to a state-approved therapist. Inpatient services are also covered by the university.

Staff and faculty assistance programs are available on campus. Resources include counseling, mental health care and other services.
